The authors study some connections between the positivity of Riesz functionals and the solutions of quadratic and quartic moment problems. They show that a truncated moment sequence \({\mathbf y}\) lies in the closure of truncated moment sequences admitting representing measures supported in a prescribed closed set \(K\subset\mathbb R^n\) if and only if the associated Riesz functional \(L_{\mathbf y}\) is \(K\)-positive. This leads the authors to solve the truncated \(K\)-moment problem in some special cases, in particular, they give solutions to the truncated moment problem in the remaining open cases of Hilbert's theorem on the sums of squares.
