The authors analyse the isomorphic structure of the weak \(L^p\) spaces \(L^{p,\infty}(\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\) when \((\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\) is a purely non atomic measure space. The classification theorems that they obtain are based on a general result that gives an isomorphism between any weak \(L^p\) space and a weak \(L^p\) space defined on a measure space of a standard form (Section 2), following the same scheme as the classification theorems for classical \(L^p\) spaces. In particular, Theorem 1 states that each such space, \(1<p< \infty\), can be written as a direct sum of three spaces \(E \oplus F \oplus G\), where \[ E=L^{p,\infty}\bigg( \bigoplus_{\alpha < \omega_1 \cdot \tau} 2^{k_\alpha} \bigg), \quad F= L^{p,\infty}\bigg( \bigoplus_{n=1}^\infty 2^{k'_n}\bigg) \] and \[ G=L^{p,\infty}\bigg( \bigoplus_{n=1}^\infty 2^{-n} \cdot 2^{k^{''}_n} \bigg), \] where all the \(k\) are infinite cardinals and \[ k_{\alpha_1} \leq k_{\alpha_2}< k'_{n_1} \leq k'_{n_2} < k_{n_1}^{''} \leq k_{n_2}^{''} \] if \( \alpha_1 < \alpha_2\) and \(n_1 < n_2\). The argument that they use relies on Maharam's classification of measure algebras. In the setting established by Theorem 1, they provide more specific results depending on the structure of the spaces involved. In Section 3, the authors consider spaces of the form \(L^{p,\infty}(\bigoplus_{\alpha<\tau} a_\alpha 2^{k_\alpha})\), where \((a_\alpha)\) is a transfinite sequence of positive real numbers and \((k_\alpha)\) is a non-decreasing sequence of infinite cardinals, and they analyse their structure by means of the definition of isomorphic invariants. In Section 4, they continue with the analysis of the case \(1<p<2\) that is different of the general one. Finally, in Section 5 they give a special classification result for some particular class of spaces in the case \(2 \leq p < \infty\). The paper provides also a lot of information about special sequences and subspaces of weak \(L_p\) spaces, and finishes with a list of open problems.
