This paper deals with the Cauchy problem for the wave equation on a non-globally hyperbolic manifold of special form containing closed time-like curves. The model example for such a framework is the Minkowski plane with a handle. The main result of the present paper establishes that the classical solution of the Cauchy problem exists and is unique for initial data satisfying a specific set of some natural requirements.
