Let \(X\) be a Banach space and let \(A\) be a closed densely defined linear operator which generates a \(C_0\)-semigroup. The main result of the paper states that, if the zero set \(N(A)\) of \(A\) and its range \(R(A)\) are nontrivial closed subspaces and \(X\) is decomposed into the direct sum of \(R(A)\) and \(N(A)\), then the following assertions hold: {\parindent8mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] the subspace \(N(A)\) is an attractor of the abstract dynamical system \(\dot x = Ax\); \item[(ii)] the equilibrium \(x=0\) for this system is Lyapunov stable; \item[(iii)] this equilibrium is asymptotically stable in the class of initial values \(a\in R(A)\). \end{itemize}}
