\textit{D. Maclagan} and \textit{G. Smith} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 571, 179--212 (2004; Zbl 1062.13004) developed a multigraded version of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity. In particular a coherent sheaf \(\mathcal F\) on \(X:={\mathbb P}^a\times{\mathbb P}^b\) is \((m,n)\)-regular if \[ H^i(X,\mathcal F\otimes\mathcal O_X(m-u,n-v))=0 \] for every \(i>0\) and for \(u+v=i.\) In the paper under review it is proved that if \(C\subseteq{\mathbb P}^a\times{\mathbb P}^b,\) (\(a,b\geq 2\)) is a smooth curve of bidegree \((d_1,d_2),\) with nondegenerate birational projections, then the ideal sheaf \(\mathcal I_C\) is \((d_2-b+1,d_1-a+1)\)-regular. Moreover an example shows that the bounds are sharp.
