The separation of motions for multifrequency systems is considered in the paper. The system is constructed in the Hamiltonian form by introducing adjoint variables. The author seeks the change of variables solving the motion-separation problem. He constructs the canonical replacement by using a Lie generator. The proposed method does not lead to an increase in the dimensions of the problem. The non-resonance case and the ''near- resonance'' conditions are considered. Also the i-th approximation's resonance is defined and a resonance form obtained. Finally an example in the form of Duffing equation is given to illustrate the theory. The paper is addressed to research scientist in the field of nonlinear mechanics.
