The micropolar fluid theory, in which the deformation of the microelement is ignored, is applied to study the effects of surface roughness in lubrication. The problem considered is that of a rough journal bearing, where, for convenience, only the stationary part of the bearing is assumed to be rough. In line with \textit{H. Christensen}'s stochastic theory [Proc. Inst. Mech. Eng. 184, 1013 ff. (1969)] the cases of longitudinal and transverse roughness are studied.
