A subset S of a uniform space X is strongly U-embedded in X if every equi-uniformly continuous real-valued family of functions on S extends to an equi-uniformly continuous real-valued family on X. The relation between strong U-embedding and other uniform extension properties is discussed. For example, it is shown that if X is a metric space with the metric uniformity, then a uniformly connected subset S of X is strongly U-embedded in X if and only if every uniformly continuous function \(f: S\to {\mathbb{R}}\) extends to a uniformly continuous function \(F: X\to {\mathbb{R}}\), that is, if and only if S is U-embedded in X. Extensions of uniformly continuous functions into discrete spaces is also discussed. In particular, an example is given of \(\sigma\)-compact, locally compact, separable, Hausdorff group X which has a countable closed discrete subset S such that every \(f: S\to 2\) has a uniformly continuous extension \(F: X\to 2\), but not every function \(f: S\to \omega\) admits a uniformly continuous extension \(F: X\to \omega\).
