Denote by i: BP\(\to H\) the map from the p-local Brown-Peterson spectrum to the mod p Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum. Let \(I=(p,v_ 1,...,v_ n,...)\) be the kernel of \(\pi_*(i)\). The author's key lemma states: Let \(x_ j\in BP^*(X)\) and \(\Sigma v_ jx_ j=0 mod I\). Then there is \(y\in H^*(X)\) such that \(Q_ j(y)=i_*(x_ j)\). (Here \(Q_ j\in H^{2p^ j-1}(H)\) is the Milnor operation.) There are various applications to computations of \(BP^*\)-modules \(BP^*(X)\), using the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence. The proof of the lemma relies on the Baas-Sullivan techniques of manifolds with singularities.
