A mixture theory involving porous solids is constructed taking thermal effects into account. The constituent of primary interest is a porous hyperelastic anisotropic solid undergoing finite deformations. The pores are filled in part by a dissipative constituent, the rest of the space being vacuous. The theory is based on classical thermodynamics. Field equations are derived for a nonlinear nontrivial case involving a few material functions. If specialized, the more general three dimensional theory (involving dissipation and inclusions) reduces to \textit{W. Herrmann's} model [J. Appl. Phys. 40, 2490-2499 (1969)].
