E-unitary \({\mathcal R}\)-unipotent semigroups (Q1057989)

By making use of \textit{D. B. McAlister}'s P-theorem [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 196, 351-370 (1974; Zbl 0297.20072)] \textit{L. O'Carroll} proved [in J. Algebra 42, 26-40 (1976; Zbl 0343.20037)] that every E-unitary inverse semigroup can be embedded into a semidirect product of a semilattice by a group. Recently an alternative proof of this result was published by \textit{R. Wilkinson} [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A 95, 239-242 (1983; Zbl 0524.20035)]. In this paper we generalize this theorem by proving that every E-unitary \({\mathcal R}\)-unipotent semigroup S can be embedded into a semidirect product of a band B and a group where B belongs to the variety of bands generated by the band of idempotents of S.
