Laminar fully developed flow in an internally finned vertical concentric circular annular duct has been numerically analysed. The fins are radial and affixed on the outside of the inner tube. The outer wall is insulated, while a uniform heat input is applied at the inner tube (buoyancy aiding the flow). It is found that buoyancy increases both the friction and the heat transfer. The effect, compared relative to the no buoyancy case, is stronger when the number of fins is small or the fins are short. Accounting for the buoyancy effects, a finned passage appears to be an even more effective heat exchange device.
