It was proved by the reviewer [Acta Arith. 32, 313-347 (1977; Zbl 0311.10048)] that if G is a commutative group and \(f: {\mathbb{N}}\to G\) a multiplicative arithmetic function, then the sequence of solutions of \(f(n)=g\) has an asymptotic density for all \(g\in G\). The author generalizes this in several directions, a) by finding a class of subsets \(A\subset G\) such that the sequence of solutions of f(n)\(\in A\) has an asymptotic density for all multiplicative f, b) by showing that the statement also holds for certain semigroups. A result in the b) direction was also proved by the reviewer [ibid. 42, 79-90 (1982; Zbl 0495.10034)]; neither contains the other.
