\textit{P. C. Rosenbloom} and \textit{D. V. Widder} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 92, 220-266 (1959; Zbl 0086.272)] studied expansions in terms of a system of polynomial solutions (called heat polynomials), of the heat equation \(u_ t=u_{xx}\). Their results have been generalized for partial differential equations \(u_ t=Lu\) of second order with singular coefficients, equations of higher order etc. If \((u_ n)\) is the system generalizing the heat polynomials usually convergence results for \(\sum a_ nu_ n\) follow from estimates for the system \((u_ n)\). In the present paper it is shown that convergence results can be based on sharp estimates of the operator L in an appropriate scale of Banach spaces. If this technique is used the system \((u_ n)\) appears in the form \(T(t)x^ n\) where T(t) is a family of bounded linear operators, and it is not necessary to know the system \((u_ n)\) in detail. In the present paper two classes of differential equations of arbitrary order are discussed on the base of this method.
