The Cauchy problem for effectively hyperbolic equations (a standard type) (Q1058673)

In a previous paper [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 23, 503-562 (1983; Zbl 0546.35037)] the author discussed the Cauchy problem of a special type of hyperbolic equations of second order. This discussion was the first step to the proposition that effectively hyperbolic operators are strongly hyperbolic. The present paper contains the second step. The author shows that the special type of the first paper may be regarded as a standard type of effectively hyperbolic equations of second order. The proof is based on the discusion of a quasilinear equation.
