    It is proved that if the components of the stretching tensor are slightly smaller than those for which the constitutive equation \(\underset \tilde{} S=2\mu \underset \tilde{} E+\lambda (tr\underset \tilde{} E)\quad l\) holds, then the rate constitutive equation \(\underset \tilde{} S^{\nabla}=2\mu \underset \tilde{} D+\lambda (tr\underset \tilde{} D)\quad l\) is a good approximation to the constitutive equation \(\dot S=2\mu \dot E\underset \tilde{} {\;}+\lambda (tr\dot E\underset \tilde{} {\;})\quad l\). Here \(\lambda\) and \(\mu\) are Lamé constants, \(\underset \tilde{} S\) is the Kirchhoff stress tensor, \(\underset \tilde{} S^{\nabla}\) is the Jaumann derivative of S, and \(\underset \tilde{} E=\ln \underset \tilde{} V\), where \(\underset \tilde{} V\) is the left stretch tensor, is the Hencky logarithmic tensor.
