Let \((p_ j)\) be an r-tple of real numbers, \((\alpha_ j)\), \((\beta_ j)\) two decreasing r-tples of non-negative integers with \(\alpha \succ_ p\beta\) if \(\sum^{k}_{j=1}p_ j\alpha_ j\geq \sum^{k}_{j=1}p_ j\beta_ j,\quad 1\leq k\leq r\), with equality when \(k=r;\) if \(p_ 1=...=p_ r=1,\) write \(\alpha \succ \beta.\) \textit{A. M. Fink} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 90, 251-258 (1982; Zbl 0503.26010)] proved that if f is absolutely monotonic on \(]0,\infty [\) and \(\alpha \succ \beta\) then \(\prod^{r}_{j=1}f^{(\alpha_ j)}\geq \prod^{r}_{j=1}f^{(\beta_ j)}\) and in particular this implies the well-known result \(f^{(i)}/f^{(i+1)}\geq f^{(i+1)}/f^{(i+2)},\quad i=0,1,2,...\quad.\) The author points out that the special case implies the general case and uses this idea to extend Fink's result to the case when \(\alpha \succ_ p\beta.\) Similar ideas are used to extend other results of Fink concerning functions that are completely monotonic, N- monotone and N-alternating monotone. It is also noted that if f is \((n+1)\)-convex on \(]a,b[\) with \(\lim_{x\to a}f^{(n)}(x)=f_+^{(n)}(a+)\) then \(F(t)\equiv f(t)- \sum^{n}_{k=0}[(t-a)^ k/k!]f^{(k)}(a+)\) has an integral representation similar to one obtained by Fink for N-monotone functions: \(F(t)=(1/n!)\int^{t}_{a}(t-x)^ ndf_+^{(n)}(x)\) and so if \(n>\alpha_ 1\), \(n>\beta_ 1\) and \(\alpha\) \(\succ \beta\) a proof similar to one due to Fink shows that \[ \prod^{r}_{j=1}F^{(\alpha_ j)}\geq K\prod^{r}_{j=1}F^{(\beta_ j)},\quad K=\prod^{r}_{j=1}(n- \beta_ j)!/(n-\alpha_ j)!. \]
