Among other results this paper establishes the following theorem. There exists an absolute constant \(t_ 0\) which satisfies the following: if X is a tight t-design in one of the complex projective spaces \(P^ d(c)\) \((d=4,6,8,...)\) or the quaternion projective spaces \(P^ d(H)\) \((d=8,12,16,...)\) then we have \(t\leq t_ 0\).
