Let \(\Omega \subset \subset {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) be a smooth domain. \({\bar \Omega}\) is called uniformly H-convex if there are constants \(0<c<C\) such that for all \(\delta >0\) small enough there is a Stein neighborhood \(\Omega_{\delta}\) of \({\bar \Omega}\) such that for all \(z\in \partial \Omega_{\delta}\) we have: \(c\delta <dist(z,\partial \Omega)<C\delta\) (in particular this implies the existence of a system of Stein neighborhoods for \({\bar \Omega}\)). It is shown that \({\bar \Omega}\) is uniformly H-convex in one of the following three situations: (a) there is a proper holomorphic map \(f: \Omega \to D\) which extends smoothly to the boundary. Here \(D\subset \subset {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) is a smooth pseudo-convex domain, weakly regular in the sense of \textit{D. W. Catlin} [Complex analysis of several variables, Proc. Symp., Madison, Wis. 1982, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 41, 39-49 (1984)]. (b) \(\Omega\) has a \(C^ 1\)-family of plurisubharmonic supporting functions along \(\partial \Omega.\) (c) \(\Omega\) is uniformly totally pseudoconvex (which means precisely: for any \(w\in \partial \Omega\) there are positive constants \(\delta\), c and a continuous function \(F: B(w,2\delta)\times (\partial \Omega \times B(w,\delta))\to {\mathbb{C}}\) such that for all \(\zeta\in \partial \Omega \times B(w,\delta)\) we have (i) \(F(\cdot,\zeta)\) is holomorphic in \(B(w,z\delta)\); (ii) \(F(\zeta,\zeta)=0\) and \(d_ zF|_{z=\zeta}\neq 0\); (iii) \(\{z\in B(w,2\delta)\cap B(\zeta,c)\cap {\bar \Omega}| \{F(z,\zeta)=0\}\}=\{\zeta \}).\) As a consequence of these results, the assumption of Stein neighborhood basis in some theorems about solving the \({\bar \partial}\)-equation with sup-norm estimates due to \textit{C. Parrini} and \textit{A. Selvaggi Primicerio} [Math. Z. 189, 465-474 (1985; Zbl 0546.32009) and \textit{R. M. Range} [Several complex variables, Proc. internat. Cortona/Italy 1976- 1977, 247-267 (1978; Zbl 0421.32021)] is superfluous.
