In 1940, Whitney asserted that the (n-i)-skeleton in the barycentric subdivision of a triangulation of an n-manifold is Poincaré dual to the i-th Stiefel-Whitney class of the manifold. This was proved by Cheeger in 1970. This paper generalizes the result to k-Poincaré-Euler spaces. These are spaces which satisfy Poincaré duality up to dimension k and have conditions on Euler characteristics of links of simplices in a range of dimensions. Of course, the result holds for \(i<k\).
