Starting out with the Carleman and McKean discrete velocity models of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation we derive the associated nonlinear constitutive laws. Linearization of our nonlinear results leads to a Cattaneo-type but not to a Fick-or Fourier-type transport theory being consistent with both, the theory of extended irreversible thermodynamics and the kinetic theory equation as well.
