Spreads and packings for a class of \(((2^ n+1)\) \((2^{n-1}-1)+1,2^{n-1},1)\)-designs (Q1062990)

Using the irreducible quadratic form over \(GF(2^ n)\) and the additive subgroup of \(GF(2^ n)\) of order \(2^ i\) \textit{R. H. F. Denniston} [J. Comb. Theory 6, 317-319 (1969; Zbl 0165.236)] constructed the \((v,k,\lambda)\)-BIBD with \(v=(2^ n+1)(2^ i-1)+1,\) \(k=2^ i\), \(\lambda =1\). The authors of this paper find and classify spreads and packings of Denniston BIBDs, where n is even and \(i=n-1>1\).
