The asymptotic behaviour of the numerical solution of nonlinear reaction- diffusion equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions is studied by means of difference schemes and alternating direction methods. A finite difference approximation for the equations is derived and a very strong form of stability of the numerical solution is proved. Then, the convergence of the solution of the difference scheme is shown and a time independent error estimate is given.
