The coefficients of the polynomial \(f_ n(x)=\sum^{n}_{i=1}a_ ix^{i-1}\) minimizing \(\int^{1}_{0}[f(x)-f_ n(x)]^ 2dx\) are related to the moments \(\mu_ k=\int^{1}_{0}f(x)x^{k-1}dx\) \((k=1,...,n)\) by \(\sum^{n}_{i=1}(i+j-1)^{-1}a_ i=\mu_ k\). Expressions and properties of \(f_ n(x)\) are given.
