The author settles two basic questions on transitive spaces, raised by \textit{P. Fletcher} and \textit{W. F. Lindgren} in ''Quasi-uniform spaces'', Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 77 (1982; Zbl 0501.54018). He shows that transitivity is not hereditary by embedding the well-known Kofner plane [\textit{J. Kofner}, Pac. J. Math. 88, 81-89 (1980; Zbl 0397.54025)] into a transitive space. He also defines a modification of the Kofner plane whose product with the Sorgenfrey line contains a closed homeomorph of the Kofner plane and is therefore not transitive. In addition he notes that assuming \(b=c\) there is a compact space which is not transitive.
