\textit{D. Happel} and \textit{C. M. Ringel} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 274, 399- 443 (1982; Zbl 0503.16024)] characterized tilted algebras among connected representation-finite algebras as those whose Auslander-Reiten quiver contains a complete slice, i.e. a set S of indecomposable modules that has no oriented cycles of irreducible maps, that contains exactly one representative of each \(\tau\)-orbit and that has the property that any chain of nonzero morphisms of indecomposables that starts and ends in S visits only modules in S. The present authors define a stable complete slice of the Auslander- Reiten quiver to be a complete slice of the quiver obtained by deleting all projective-injective modules. They then characterize connected representation-finite algebras admitting a stable complete slice as those obtained from tilted algebras by an iterative procedure too complicated to describe here.
