Let G be a connected non compact semisimple group with finite center, and K a maximal compact subgroup. The space \(\Omega =G/K\) is a Riemannian symmetric space. For a parabolic subgroup P of G one defines the Poisson integral \({\mathcal P}_ P: C^{\infty}(G/P)\to C^{\infty}(\Omega)\). This transform extends to a map from the space \({\mathcal B}(P)\) of hyperfunctions on the boundary G/P to \(C^{\infty}(\Omega)\). For T in \({\mathcal B}(P)\) the Poisson integral \({\mathcal P}_ P T\) belongs to the space \({\mathcal H}(\Omega)\) of harmonic functions, in the sense that F is annihilated by every G-invariant differential operator on \(\Omega\) which annihilates constants. If P is a minimal parabolic subgroup (G/P is a maximal boundary) it is known that \({\mathcal P}_ P({\mathcal B}(P))={\mathcal H}(\Omega).\) In this paper the following problem is solved: for a parabolic subgroup P of G, construct a system \({\mathcal D}(P)\) of differential operators on \(\Omega\) such that for F in \(C^{\infty}(\Omega)\), D F\(=0\) for all D in \({\mathcal D}(P)\) if and only if F is in the image of \({\mathcal P}_ P\). This problem was first considered by Hua for certain symmetric domains, and solved for some special cases by Koranyi and Malliavin, and the author. Let \({\mathfrak G}\) be the Lie algebra of G, \({\mathfrak K}\) of K, and \({\mathfrak P}\) the orthogonal complement of \({\mathfrak K}\) with respect to the Killing form. The system \({\mathcal D}(P)\) of differential operators is obtained by looking at K-equivariant mappings from \({\mathfrak P}_{{\mathbb{C}}}\) into the space \({\mathcal H}[{\mathfrak P}]\) of harmonic polynomials on \({\mathfrak P}\).
