Let \({\mathfrak g}\) be a real simple noncompact Lie algebra, \({\mathfrak g}=k\oplus {\mathfrak p}^ a \)Cartan decomposition of \({\mathfrak g}\), G and K the simply connected Lie groups corresponding to \({\mathfrak g}\) and \(k\) respectively, with G/K a bounded symmetric domain, and Con the set of closed convex G-invariant cones in \({\mathfrak g}\) distinct from \(\{\) \(0\}\) and \({\mathfrak g}.\) The set Con has been described by the author [Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 15, No.4, 53-66 (1981; Zbl 0484.22023)] and by \textit{S. M. Paneitz} [J. Funct. Anal. 43, No.3, 313-359 (1981; Zbl 0476.22009) and ''Classification of invariant convex cones in simple Lie algebras'', Preprint, Univ. Calif. (1980)]; Con contains a maximal cone \(C_{\max}\) and a minimal cone \(C_{\min}\) such that for every C in Con either \(C_{\min}\subseteq C\subseteq C_{\max}\) or \(C_{\min}\subseteq -C\subseteq C_{\max}.\) For \(C\in Con\) let P(C) be the smallest closed subsemigroup of G containing exp C. The problem solved is the following. For which cones C in Con is it true that P(C)\(\neq G\) and \(P(C)\cap P(C)^{-1}=\{e\}?\) \textit{Eh. B. Vinberg} [Funct. Anal. Appl. 14, 1-10 (1980); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 14, No.1, 1-13 (1980; Zbl 0452.22014)] proved that for \(C_{\min}\) the answer is affirmative. The present author exhibits a cone \(C_ 0\) in Con such that, for \(C\in Con\), P(C)\(\neq G\) if and only if \(C\subseteq C_ 0\) or \(-C\subseteq C_ 0\); he also shows \(C_ 0=C_{\max}\) if and only if G/K is a tube domain, and \(P(C)\cap P(C)^{-1}=\{e\}\) if P(C)\(\neq G.\) In the proof techniques from the author's earlier paper [op. cit.] and Vinberg's paper [op. cit.] are used.
