A group G is called quasinilpotent (quasihypercentral) if G possesses a finite (ascending) normal series whose quotients \(H_{k+1}/H_ k\) are abelian or direct products of nonabelian simple groups and \((H_{k+1}/H_ k){\mathcal C}(H_{k+1}/H_ k)=G/H_ k.\) In both cases the groups are central products of a perfect and a nilpotent (hypercentral) group (Theorema 1.2, Proposizione 1.4, Theorema 4.4), not necessarily splitting into a direct product. The generalized Fitting subgroup \(F^*(G)\) can be introduced in analogy to the finite case, the results on characteristic quotients (Teorema 2.9) are more complex here. Maximal or minimal condition on subnormal, normal or abelian subgroups lead to only a finite number of simple factors in the hypercentral quotient group of a quasinilpotent (quasihypercentral) group and allow good description of these subclasses ({\S}3).
