Qualitative aspects of differentiation (Q1065950)

The author deals with the qualitative derivative of a real function of a real variable, i.e. the derivative which is obtained by taking the limit of the differential quotient only on a set, which is residual in some neighbourhood of the point under consideration. This kind of limiting process was considered by S. Marcus in the fifties. The main goal of the paper is to compare the behaviour of qualitative and approximate derivatives. The author presents several theorems about symmetry of qualitative Dini derivatives. In most theorems the exceptional sets are sigma-porous.
