\textit{D. N. Sarkhel} and \textit{A. K. De} [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 31, 26-45 (1981; Zbl 0477.26002)] have introduced the interesting concepts of proximal limit, continuity and derivative using an idea they called sparseness of a set. In this paper the authors define a proximal Denjoy- Stieltjes integral with respect to a non-decreasing function \(\omega\) using the ideas of \(\omega\)-proximal limit, etc., (an idea due to \textit{D. N. Sarkhel} [J. Aust. Math. Soc. 18, 129-152 (1974; Zbl 0294.26012)]). This integral generalizes a Denjoy-Stieltjes integral of \textit{M. K. Bose} [Glas. Mat., III. Ser. 15(35), 41-50 (1980; Zbl 0445.26004)]. An integration by parts formula is obtained and it is shown that in some sense this integral is the least general one having Cauchy and Harnack properties.
