Let \(G\) be a transitive subgroup of the bounded symmetric group on a set \(X\). A nonstandard wreath product here is in fact the permutational wreath product of an abstract group \(M\) and \(G\). More exactly, this is a semidirect product \(F\leftthreetimes G\), where \(F=\{f\colon X\to M\mid \vert\operatorname{supp} f\vert <\infty \}\) a base, \(G\le \Aut F\), \(f^g(x)=f(x^{g^{-1}})\) for any \(x\in X\), \(f\in F\), \(g\in G\). It is proved that in some precise sense \(F\) is almost always a characteristic subgroup of \(FG\). In the case when \(F\) \(\operatorname{char}FG\) the author describes the group \(\Aut(FG)\).
