For a dendrite D, let E(D) denote the set of end points of D. If an n-od N is contained in D, let \(\Phi\) be the family of all finite subsets of D such that \(F\in \Phi\) if and only if F contains the set E(N)-E(D) and is contained in [D-E(D)]-[N-E(N)] and such that each component of D-F contains an n-od. The main theorem is as follows: Let a dendrite D and an arbitrary n-od N in D be given. Then N is an open retract of D if and only if: (i) D is of finite order at each point. (ii) the family \(\Phi\) is nonempty, and (iii) there exists a member F of \(\Phi\) such that E(D)\(\cup F\) is closed.
