This is a survey article representing one part of a series of articles with the same title. Three of them already appeared in the same journal in 1980 and 1982 [cf. Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Probl. Geom. 13, 27-76 (1982; Zbl 0503.53007); 13, 77-117 (1982; Zbl 0503.53008); and 10, 75-115 (1978; Zbl 0402.53018)]. The article under review deals with submanifolds of many manifolds endowed with almost complex or almost hermitian structure. The authors apply the technique of the theory of geometric objects as developed by Laptev's school. In more detail they study submanifolds of codimension one.
