    Let \(S_{2k+1}\) denote the set of cardinal \({\mathcal L}\)-splines defined on \({\mathbb{R}}\) having knots of multiplicity one at the integers, and belonging to the kernel of the differential operator \({\mathcal L}_{2k+1}=p_{2k+1}(D)\) between each two consecutive knots. Here D is the ordinary differentiation operator, and \(p_{2k+1}\) is the monic polynomial \(p_{2k+1}(x)=x(x^ 2-\alpha_ 1)-(x^ 2-\alpha_ k)\) with \(\alpha_ i\in {\mathbb{R}}\). It is known that to each bounded sequence of data \b{y}\(=(y_{\nu})^{\infty}_{-\infty}\) there corresponds a unique bounded function \({\mathcal S}_{2k+1}\underline y\in S_{2k+1}\) such that \(S_{2k+1}\underline y(\nu)=y_{\nu}(\nu \in {\mathbb{Z}})\). The author studies the asymptotic behaviour of operator norm \(\| {\mathcal S}_{2k+1}\| =\sup_{\underline y\neq \underline 0}\| {\mathcal S}_{2k+1}\underline y\|_{\infty}/\| \underline y\|_{\infty},\) when k tends to infinity. The following result is obtained. Let \(\beta_ k=(2/\pi)+4\pi \sum^{k}_{j=1}1/(\alpha_ j+\pi^ 2),\) and let \(\gamma\) denote Euler's constant. Then \(\| {\mathcal S}_{2k+1}\| =(2/\pi)(\ln \beta_ k+3 \ln 2-\ln \pi +\gamma)+O(\beta_ k^{-2})(k=\infty),\) as \(\beta_ k\to \infty\) (k\(\to \infty)\). If the sequence \((\beta_ k)\) converges then it is shown that \((\| {\mathcal S}_{2k+1}\|)\) converges as well.
