    The Landau-Lifshitz equation \(\vec S_ t=\vec S\times \vec S_{xx}+\vec S\times J\vec S\), \(J=diag(J_ 1,J_ 2,J_ 3)\), \(| \vec S| =1\), describing spin waves in an anisotropic ferromagnet, is considered. It has been shown by E. K. Sklyanin that this equation may be written as a compatibility condition of two linear matrix differential equations. The basis of the author's investigation is the Zakharov-Shabat method of reduction of the inverse scattering problem for the system of linear equations to the Riemann boundary problem. The inverse problem of reconstruction of the solution from the scattering data is reduced here to the matrix Riemann boundary problem on a torus and then to a certain Fredholm integral equation. Explicit formulae for N-soliton solutions are obtained.
