The stability and the small vibrations about the finitely deformed state of rectangular columns subjected to axial compressive forces are investigated. The material is assumed to be a polynomial compressible material which is homogeneous, isotropic and hyperelastic. The theory of small deformations superposed on large deformations is used in the formulation of the problem. Numerical results are provided to study the effect of some material and geometrical properties, and also to compare some of the present results with those existing in the literature.
