The author shows that non-singular right FPF rings R are characterized by the following properties: i) R is right bounded, ii) If Q denotes the maximal quotient ring of R, then \(Q\otimes_{R}Q\simeq Q\) and \(Q_ R\) is flat, iii) For every finitely generated right ideal I of R, R decomposes as the direct sum of the trace of I and the right annihilator of I. This extends a characterization of regular FPF rings due to \textit{S. S. Page} [Pac. J. Math. 79, 169-176 (1979; Zbl 0369.16015)]. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a right FPF ring to be right semihereditary are also given, as well as some examples that illustrate these results.
