Triangle contractive maps and their fixtures in normed linear spaces (Q1069110)

Using the notion of orthogonality due to Birkhoff and James, the area of a triangle, in a normed linear space, is defined in two ways and certain characterization of inner product spaces are obtained. In the last half of the paper triangle contractive maps are considered. A few results regarding fixtures of triangle contractive maps on a normed linear space are obtained, partially extending similar results in Hilbert space setting, of the authors [Nonlinear Analysis, Theory Methods Appl. 8, 401- 405 (1984; Zbl 0546.47028)].
