An analytical model is described which has been developed for a spare parts provisioning system. This system consists of three echelons, each having a number of stocking points. The model calculates the number of spares for each stocking point, satisfying the requirement that during a period of isolation the total system should be able to carry out repairs of equipments by exchanging defective parts. No repairs of parts can be done during that period of isolation. Additional requirements are also imposed on each echelon separately. The optimisation is based on the Lagrange multiplier theory.
