Using a Palatini-type variational principle in a two-component spinor version of the Hilbert Lagrangian, the author derives from Noether's theorem a metric conserved current resulting from the SL(2,C) symmetry of the gravitational field. A brief review of the SL(2,C) related conservation laws arising from a quadratic Lagrangian density is given. Noether's theorem is applied to the Carmeli-Kaye Lagrangian to obtain the conserved current. An application to the case of the Tolman metric is also included.
