Attractors of certain two- and three-dimensional maps are interpreted as graphs of multivalued mappings, in terms of which then a recursion scheme is introduced to approximate attractors and to calculate their fractal dimension. For the maps under consideration the latter is compared with the Lyapunov dimension. The results are put in relation to published numerical results and conjectures by Kaplan/Yorke and Mori/Fujisaka.
