A first-order difference equation which constitutes a simple model for a lethal parasite-host interaction is studied. Completing a study initiated by \textit{R. M. May} and \textit{R. M. Anderson} [Epidemiology and genetics in the coevolution of parasites and hosts. Philos. Trans. Roy. Soc. B 219, 281-313 (1983)], the dynamics are shown to be completely chaotic.
