A metric invariant with respect to translations, with absolutely convex spheres is constructed in the class of strictly regular Fréchet spaces, and a generalization of the well-known Bishop-Phelps theorem is obtained in the same framework. As application, simple characterizations of the proximal subspaces in \(L^ p_{loc}(R)\) \((1\leq p<\infty)\) and C(T) (where T denotes a \(\sigma\)-compact space) are given.
