The present paper gives the construction of a partial spectral reduction for a positive linear operator T defined on a Banach lattice E via not necessarily closed invariant ideals \(J_{(\lambda)}\), complete under a norm \(\| \cdot \|_{\lambda}\) with \(\| T|_{J(\lambda)}\| \leq \lambda\). Denote \(\nu(T)\) the spectral radius of T then we have \(J(\lambda)=E\) for all \(\lambda >\nu(T)\) and \(J(\lambda)\neq E\) for all \(\lambda\leq \nu (T)\). Nevertheless J(\(\lambda)\) may be dense in E for some \(\lambda\leq \nu (T)\), those \(J(\lambda)\) form the most interesting part of this reduction, since in that case we can replace the original space E by the Banach lattice \(J(\lambda)\) in order to get a spectral radius smaller than the original one. The paper contains some important properties of this construction and the discussion of some special cases: compact operators T and the shift operators on \(\ell^ p\) \((1\leq p<\infty)\).
