This is a survey of the Yang-Mills theory from the point of view of the applications of the analytical methods in geometry. The author discusses, in particular, a weak formulation of the Yang-Mills equations, conformal invariance, Palais-Smale condition, the removability of point singularities, an existence theorem for self-dual connections, the properties of critical levels, and formulates a number of unsolved problems.
