The present work constitutes an extension and generalization of that in the article of \textit{B. S. Kim} and \textit{F. Moon}, AIAA J. 17, 1126-1133 (1979; Zbl 0414.73026) to handle the practical problem of central impact (three-dimensional wave propagation) in a plate consisting of a number of orthotropic layers each with an arbitrary fiber orientation. By employing the approximate equations of motion derived herein and the solution methodology described, transient interlaminar stresses due to impact on a general laminate may be obtained.
