    If (R,m,k) is a local ring and M a finitely generated R-module, then \(P^ M_ R=\sum \dim_ k(Tor^ R_ i(M,k))z^ i\) is called the Poincaré series of M over R. For any homomorphism \(f:(R,m,k)\to (S,n,k)\) of local rings one has, coefficientwise, the inequality \(P^ M_ S\leq P^ M_ R(1-z(P^ S_ R-1))^{-1}.\) M is an f-Golod module if equality holds and \(nITor^ R(S,k)=0\); f is a Golod homomorphism if k is f-Golod. The author characterizes f-Golod modules by syzygies and homomorphisms of rings.
