A ''twisted'' product is introduced on the Schwartz space \({\mathcal S}'\) of tempered distributions and \({\mathcal S}'\) acquires the structure of a quasi *-algebra, and the Weyl quantization map \(f\to W(f)\) becomes an isomorphism of this algebra onto the quasi *-algebra \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal S},{\mathcal S}')\) of all continuous linear operators \({\mathcal S}\to {\mathcal S}'\). The multiplication is only partially defined in a quasi *-algebra, and the problem of extending the multiplication is discussed. We recall the definition of the twisted product on \({\mathcal S}_ 2\) which is used in the paper \[ (f\circ g)(q,p)=(1/\pi^ 2)\int f(q+q_ 1,p+p_ 1)g(q+q_ 2,p+p_ 2)e^{i2(p_ 1q_ 2-p_ 2q_ 1)}dq_ 1 dq_ 2 dp_ 1 dp_ 2. \] It is proved that the Weyl quantization W(f) agrees with the quantization \(W_ H()\) which is determined on polynomials by \[ (\lambda Q+\mu P)^ n=\sum_{\ell +k=n}W_ H(q^{\ell} p^ k) \lambda^{\ell} \mu^ k \] for \(\lambda\),\(\mu\in {\mathbb{R}}\), \(n=0,1,...\), where the operators Q and P satisfy \([Q,P]=iI\).
