    Let \(C\subset {\mathbb{P}}^ r_ k\) be a monomial curve of the type \((t_ 0^{n_ r},t_ 0^{n_ r-n_ 1}t_ 1^{n_ 1},...,t_ 1^{n_ r})\), where \(0<n_ 1<...<n_ r\) and \(\gcd (n_ 1,...,n_ r)=1.\) Let P be the associated ideal of C in \(R=k[x_ 0,...,x_ n]\). C is said to be a Buchsbaum curve (''arithmetically Buchsbaum'') if \(T=(R/P)_{(x_ 0,...,x_ r)}\) is a Buchsbaum ring. If \(S=<(n_ r,0),(n_ r-n_ 1,n_ 1),...,(0,n_ r)>\) denotes the associated semigroup of C, then the Buchsbaum-property of C is equivalent to the fact that \(S\setminus (0,0)\) is a (semigroup)-ideal in \(H:=\{(S_ 0,S_ 1)| \quad S_ 0+S_ 1\equiv 0 mod n_ r\},\) where \(S_ 0\in <n_ r-n_{r- 1},...,n_ r-n_ 1,n_ r>\) and \(S_ 1\in <n_ 1,n_ 2,...,n_ r>\). Since \(| H-S| <\infty\) in our case, one can define the \(length\quad of\quad S\setminus 0=:I\) by \(\ell (S\setminus 0):=| (I- I_ 0)\setminus I|,\) where \(I-I_ 0:=\{h\in H| \quad h+I_ 0\subseteq I\}.\) If C is (arithmetically) Cohen-Macaulay, then \(\ell (S\setminus 0)=1,\) hence \(i(S)-\ell (S\setminus 0)=-1,\) where i(S) denotes the invariant of the Buchsbaum ring T (which is zero in the Cohen-Macaulay case). If C is Buchsbaum, but not Cohen-Macaulay, then \(i(S)=\ell (S\setminus 0)\geq 0\). The author shows in the light of a certain class of examples that for every \(k\in {\mathbb{N}}\) there exists a monomial curve C with \(i(S)-\ell (S\setminus 0)=k\), see Satz 4.
